After a storied career that began as lead vocalist for Steeler, which would also go on to include guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen, and selling millions of records under his eponymous KEEL with classic albums THE RIGHT TO ROCK and THE FINAL FRONTIER (both produced by KISS’ Gene Simmons), Keel veered off into brave new territory with the decidedly Southern Rock/Outlaw Country feel of METAL COWBOY.
Originally released in 2014, METAL COWBOY was a bold new direction for Keel, pulling strongly from the playbook of Country and Southern Rock, while maintaining the powerful Rock edge and unmistakable powerhouse vocals Keel is known for. While Keel had some success in Country and Southern Rock after the dissolution of KEEL (who reunited in 2008), METAL COWBOY definitively established Keel’s musical identity, although its genesis had far deeper roots.
“We (KEEL) recorded a version of ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Outlaw’ for Penelope Spheeris for the DUDES Movie Soundtrack that also features Megadeth, W.A.S.P., Steve Vai, and Jane’s Addiction. It ended up being a great cult film and I’d love it even if I wasn’t in it. That really was the genesis of the Metal Cowboy – ‘Outlaw’ became my signature song, and ended up featured in the movie twice!”
Keel go on to form RON KEEL BAND, with a new powerhouse band featuring the best players the Midwest has to offer. While sticking to the earthy Southern charms of METAL COWBOY, RKB showcases a new, rich musical fabric for Keel and his bandmates.

Following the declaration of intent of lead single ‘Pop Don’t Stop’ Kim Wilde releases the thrill ride of raucous second single ‘Kandy Krush’.
‘Pop Don’t Stop’ was playlisted on BBC Radio 2, declared “a huge pop anthem” by the Express and a “pop wrecking ball that’s about to smash its way through your brain” by Popjustice and included the prescient lyrics “The seasons come and go again and what was old is new again.”
Kim Wilde’s return to recording isn’t a comeback, but it does mark a fresh start in the iconic singer’s extraordinary career. Proud of her past, but focused on the future, Kim has never stopped singing or selling out tours – she has played more shows in the past decade than ever before, finding fans in countries she never dreamed she’d visit and turning new generations on to her songs – such huge hits as ‘Kids In America’, ‘Chequered Love’, ‘You Keep Me Hanging On’ and ‘Cambodia’.
Named after a real-life Close Encounter that occurred in Kim’s back garden in 2009, ‘Here Come The Aliens’ contains 12 tracks of swagger and sweetness that delve in to disco, new wave, electro and glam rock, but are really just smart, stylish, arms-aloft pop. From the slinky, stomp-along opener 1969 and the electro monster ‘Stereo Shot’ to the shimmering ballad ‘Solstice’, the addictive, riff-drenched ‘A Different Story’ and the boisterous ‘Birthday’, ‘Here Come The Aliens’ pairs Kim’s trademark lust for life with the strongest set of songs of her nearly 40 year career.
Vocally, Kim has never sounded better, the result of a hectic gig and festival schedule that has taken Kim and her six-strong band around the world for the past decade, playing not only her classic ‘80s tracks, but the hits she has continued to enjoy throughout Europe, Scandinavia and Asia up to the present day. In fact, it’s in Britain where Kim has been off the road the most.
“I’ve played more in the past 15 years than I did in the first two decades of my career,” says Kim, the UK’s most successful female pop star of the 80s, whose early tours included opening for David Bowie and Michael Jackson. “My band and I have headlined several tours abroad, but this is the first one for almost 30 years at home. But I’ve had fantastic experiences here touring with Rewind and Let’s Rock so our fans know that they have a very special place in my heart. I cannot wait to see them all up close and personal.”
A true family affair, ‘Here Come The Aliens’ was largely co-written by Kim and Ricky (who produced the record) and also features her niece Scarlett, who has played in the band for a decade and sings and songwrites on the album. The multi-talented Scarlett is also responsible for the album’s phenomenal artwork.

Always a treat when a band or musician contacts you directly via this blog. The Morning Yells are one such band, hailing from the US, they formed around brother and sister Phil and Laura Stancil. To date they have released one album in 2016 and an EP late last year. They have a new album due this summer and you can hear some of their music below – a beguiling mix of pop, rock and reminded me of Tom Petty in the vocals and laid back musical feel. I’d highly recommend you give them a listen…
RYAN ROXIE ‘IMAGINE YOUR REALITY’
RELEASED: 25th MAY 2018 / CARGO RECORDS
Check out the ‘California Man’ lyric video
Vocalist/guitarist & songwriter, RYAN ROXIE, is best known as ALICE COOPER’S long-time lead guitarist and collaborator. He has also worked with Slash & Gilby Clarke and been a member of Classic Rock Award nominated band, Casablanca. Roxie has had an impressive ride so far!
His forthcoming album, ‘Imagine Your Reality’ is his first official ‘solo’ release and sees him joined by other noteworthy musicians, including a collaboration with Cheap Trick’s Robin Zander on the track California Man. Says Roxie, ‘Cheap Trick were a major influence in my musical upbringing. Both Robin Zander and Rick Nielsen have joined us onstage at Alice Cooper shows in the past and have always been the most quintessential rock stars. In my opinion Robin Zander’s voice IS the definition of Rock ‘n’ Roll, so having him guest vocal on California Man definitely ticks a box off my ‘greatest moments in rock ‘n roll’ list’.
‘Imagine Your Reality’ continues Roxie’s legacy of creating infectiously melodic songs and straight ahead no nonsense rock riffs, and this time with more guitar than ever before! Ten tracks, all underlined by ten gleaming guitar solos. From the punk rock undertones of ‘Never Mind Me’ to the un-sugarcoated tale of life in La La Land (To Live and Die in LA) to the superb Beatle-y/Oasis nod, ‘Look Me In The Eye’ – it’s a uplifting big rock sound. Robin Zander transforms ‘California Man’ into the ultimate vintage-vibed, top down, drive in the sunshine, rock n’ roll anthem.
Ryan says, “With this album I think we kept the spirit and power of the 3.5 minute rock song intact as well as keeping the dream of guitar-driven music alive and well. I can’t wait for people to experience my reality.”
Ryan Roxie will be hitting the road with Alice Cooper in the US starting March 1st. ‘Over And Done’ – the debut single from ‘Imagine Your Reality’ will be released to coincide with the tour.
“Roxie is a consummate song writer…upbeat riffs, solid-gold choruses and killer, heavy pop-rock sensibilities… ” – Classic Rock
“One of the finest power pop rockers around…” –Fireworks
“Tunes positively oozing out of every pore…” – Uberrock
