Samantha Tieger releases her latest single ‘Eyes Wide Open’, which she says is about “…that feeling of someone slipping away from you. Something can seem so good and so right, and yet the other person is just in an entirely different headspace. There’s not always a lot you can do to change that, but this song expresses the desire to try. I especially wanted the chorus lyrics and melody to convey a strong resolve to not allow the other person to give up.”
Gentle and soothing pop ditty, which bodes well and raises interest ahead of her debut six song EP due later this year.
Restive Nation have a new new EP ‘Lucidum’ out now. The band have been around since 2014 and have a line-up that features four vocalists – Chris Cahill (who also handles production & sound design & guitar), Tony Carberry, Neal Pawney Bond and John Atmahead. Rounding out the band are Ciaran Timmy Lynch (bass), Ben Thonett (synth) and Cion O’Callaghan (drums).
Lead track ‘Coma’ is a decent mix of electronica coupled with the vocal menance of say Nine Inch Nails. ‘Heretic Head (If You Die On Me’ is another strong synth/guitar led rocker, although the vocals on ‘The Prouder Ones’ are not for me.
If electronica alt rock is your bag you’d do well to check Restive Nation out.
Legendary British songwriter and producer, Barry Blue, announces new recording project ‘Chapter and Verse…50 years On’ released September 18. Known for the hits such as ‘Dancin’ (On A Saturday Night)’ and ‘Do You Wanna Dance?’, his songs have been covered or sampled by Celine Dion, Diana Ross and Andrea Bocelli through to Missy Elliott, J.Dilla and Philip Bailey of Earth Wind & Fire and writing such pop staples as Dina Carroll’s ‘Escaping,’ Toto Coelo’s ‘I Eat Cannibals,’ ‘ Brotherhood of Man’s European No. 1 ‘Kiss Me Kiss Your Baby’ and many other chart notables. Plus plenty of TV themes and advertising jibgles including 70’s TV quiz show ‘The Golden Shot’.
The box set adds a disc of dance flavoured tunes plus a copy of his memoir ‘Who’s Barry?’ and a podcast. Plus his new album ‘Songs From The Heart Book’, which inlcudes his new single (out on July 31) ‘Crime To Be Cool’. Not my musical cup of tea but doubtless his fans will be lookign forward to this one and the single certainly wouldn’t sound out of place on daytime BBC Radio 2.
Finally, something a bit different… Nordensound is Latvian musician/composer who has a vertiable assortment of tunes on his website. Check them out (‘Hello Captain’ & ‘Winter Sun’ gained my attention), some interesting electronica, EDM and chill out sounds to be found.
