Silver Lining Music [Release date 29.11.19]
A double album from Scottish rockers Gun, one disc is a best of drawn from their thirty years together and the second disc are all cover versions of songs that have influenced the band. Gun are no strangers to a cover version as Cameo’s ‘Word Up’ provided them with a top 10 UK hit in 1994.
The big hitters are here including ‘Better Days’, ‘Higher Ground’ and ‘Steal Your Fire’, plus ‘Favourite Pleasures’ from more recent times. Would have been nice perhaps to have a few more songs, especially from the more recent albums.
The covers include the aforementioned ‘Word Up’, plus the band’s recent single and their rocked up version of the Stevie Wonder classic ‘Superstition’. Not overly taken on their version of the Beastie Boys ‘(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)’, however Hot Chocolate’s ‘Every 1’s A Winner’ is indeed a winner and will hopefully be available as single and/or added to their live set.
They tour the UK in December with the Dan Reed Network and FM.
