Sad to read about Mark Stanway leaving Magnum last week after being involved in the band for 36 years. No official comment from the band as yet and Mark Stanway has been diplomatic on his Facebook postings. With him leaving with three gigs remaining there was much speculation amongst fans as to who would replace him. In the end it was technology, or rather backing tapes of his playing!
As for the reasons for his leaving the band some fans suggesting it was because he couldn’t sell his recent memoir on the tour and there were a couple of Facebook posts from Mark Stanway bemoaning the fact he couldn’t sell his book at the shows.
The band are due to start work on a new studio album early next year. No news on his replacement as yet. They have a ballads collection out on 6 January via SPV. Fans will love this as it includes re-recorded versions and an acoustic version of the classic ‘Lonely Night’. As for Mark Stanway no news as yet although there may be some more activity with Grand Slam.
Whatever happens in the future hopefully both parties will keep on civil terms. Keep the night light burning…
