I am about to embark on my third Future Learn course ‘Literature and Mental Health: Reading for Wellbeing‘ and they recommended this charity ReLit. Interesting what they do and I must admit I had never heard of Bibliotherapy.
Literature and Mental Health: Reading for Wellbeing is linked to our new bibliotherapy charity ReLit. ReLit aims to explore and promote the complementary treatment of mental health conditions through mindful reading. We’ve recently published a poetry anthology, Stressed Unstressed, which contains guidance about mindful reading techniques, and we’re also working with schools and rehabilitation centres to provide poetry workshops, offering concentrated poetry-reading as a method of stress-relief.
ReLit is the brainchild of authors Paula Byrne and Jonathan Bate. Our mission is to practise and research Bibliotherapy, the ancient art of book-healing. Two and a half thousand years ago, Aeschylus, the father of dramatic literature, claimed that “words are the physicians of a mind diseased.” We invite you to join us on the journey to discover whether you, your loved ones, and others going through life’s difficult times can be relit by the best words that have been written through the ages by the best authors.
