On June 3 all the Travelling Wilburys music will be available on streaming services for the first time. Plus ‘The Traveling Wilburys Collection’, a box set originally released in 2007 by Rhino, is released on the same day by Concord Bicycle Music.
The set includes the band’s two studio albums, ‘Vol. 1’ and ‘Vol. 3’, both with bonus songs, and a DVD of the band’s promo videos and a documentary on the band.
Formats: a limited edition numbered 2-CD/DVD box set; a standard 2-CD/DVD set; deluxe 180-gram vinyl box and as high-resolution downloads.
The Travelling Wilburys – Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Roy Orbsion, George Harrison, Bob Dylan – only existed between 1988 and 1990. The released two studio albums, ‘Vol. 1’ which topped the Australian charts and made number 3 in the US, three times platinum. the band were dealt a massive blow when Roy Orbison passed away at the end of 1988. Del Shannon was rumoured to be his replacement, although nothing ever came of that.
The follow-up ‘Vol. 3′ (which I have never really liked as much as the excellent debut), fared less well sales wise. It was called ‘Vol. 3’ as there was a bootleg supposedly around at the time, which was referred to as ‘Vol. 2’ by the band. The collection set topped the UK charts back in 2007 and earned a platinum disc. Sadly they never did get to tour.
A great supergroup and they left a legacy of music that still sounds good today.
