New music…VIDA and the STANDARD LAMPS

On Twitter you get quite a few bands following you and if you follow back (well it’s rude not to!) they often direct message you. A lot are okay, then occasionally you hear a song you really like. One such song is ‘Fade Away’ by Vida:

Inspired by the melodies of The Beatles, The Verve and ’90s Britpop, Vida formed in Alloa, Clackmannanshire back in January 2013. Their line-up is Jamie Pollock (lead vocals/guitar), Nathan Evans (lead guitar/backing vocals), Jamie Piggott (drums/backing vocals), Ross McShane (bass) and Greg Ballantyne (keyboards).

The Standard Lamps released their second album ‘Long Lost Love’ on April 22. They have supported the Who and the Bluetones in the past year, gaining some good live reviews. Really liking this new album a mix of storytelling songs a la Squeeze and the Bluetones, along with some cracking rock ‘n’ roll numbers. Recommended.
